Dermal Fillers

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

Dermal fillers help diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness to the face.  Aging causes the face to lose subcutaneous fat.  The facial muscles work closer to the skin surface creating more apparent smile lines and crow’s feet.  The facial skin also stretches adding to the loss of facial volume.  Facial skin is also affected by sun exposure, heredity, and lifestyle.

Dermal fillers can be used to:

• Plump thin lips;
• Enhance shallow contours;
• Soften facial creases and wrinkles;
• Improve the appearance of recessed scars;
• Reduce the signs of early aging.

Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as a value-added part of facial rejuvenation surgery.

Dermal fillers candidates

You are a good candidate for dermal fillers if you:

• Are physically healthy;
• are a non-smoker;
• Have a positive outlook and realistic goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance.

Non-surgical rejuvenation treatments often help delay the time to consider surgical intervention.  For some, surgery such as  facelifts, brow lifts, or eye lifts may be the best approach.

RECOVERY

There is no “down-time” with dermal fillers. One can resume most activities immediately. Initial  appearance after treatment with any dermal filler may include:

• An “over-filled” appearance to treated areas;
• Mild swelling or bruising;
• Temporary numbness or redness.

These conditions are alleviated with topical icing and improve within a matter hours.  When your own fat is used as the injected filler, the recovery time may extend to a few weeks.   Contact HD Esthetique for more information about fat injections

Your continuing aging process and the aging of your face together with the variables in the absorption of fillers will determine your lasting effects of fillers.

TYPES OF DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers differ in chemical make-up and longevity.  Each have varying degrees of softness.  Soft fillers are used in the lips while sturdier fillers are used to enhance cheekbones.  Dr. Antun will recommend the best type of fillers and the most effective volume needed for your areas of concern.

“Off-the-shelf” fillers may be offered as a simple office based procedure that can nicely enhance your appearance.  These dermal fillers are predictable, have few side-effects or risks, and are often injected at the surgeon’s office.
