Abdominoplasty

WHAT IS A TUMMY TUCK?

Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin from the abdominal area.  In most cases, abdominoplasty restores weakened or separated muscles creating a smoother and firmer abdominal profile.

A flat,  well-toned, and well-defined abdomen is something many strive for through exercise, diet and weight control. Over time these methods may prove ineffective for reaching one’s goal.

Individuals, of otherwise proper body weight and proportion, can develop an abdomen that protrudes, is loose, or is sagging.  The most common causes of this include:

• Aging
• Heredity
• Pregnancy
• Prior surgery
• Significant fluctuations in weight

TUMMY TUCK CANDIDATES

Tummy Tuck candidates are:

•  Physically healthy and at a stable weight;
• Bothered by the appearance of the abdomen;

• Non-smokers; and
• those with realistic expectations.

TUMMY TUCK RECOVERY

During your tummy tuck recovery, dressings or bandages may be applied to your incisions.  You may be wrapped in elastic bandages or compression garments to minimize swelling and support your abdomen as it heals following surgery.

You will be given specific instructions that may include:

• Care for the surgical site and drains;

• Medications to be taken orally or applied topically to aid healing and reduce the risks of infection;

• Specific concerns for your surgical site or your general health;

• Instructions to follow up with your plastic surgeon.

The results of your tummy tuck surgery may not be immediate and may be obscured by swelling and your inability to stand fully upright until the internal healing process is complete.

Within a week or two, you should be standing tall and confident in your new slimmer profile.

Your tummy tuck will result in a flatter, firmer abdomen and your abdominal contour will be proportionate with your body type and weight.
